Italiano · English · Français · Deutsch · Español
This text is a working translation of the Italian original, not yet reviewed by a professional. The legal identity of the Data Controller and related contact details (sections 1 and 21) still need to be added before definitive publication. In case of discrepancy, the Italian version prevails.

1. Data Controller

The Data Controller is:

[TO BE DEFINED]

Contact: [TO BE DEFINED]

Asteliar will complete this information before the definitive publication of this notice.

2. What data is processed

To enable registration and the operation of the platform, Asteliar may process:

Asteliar does not request the user's date of birth.

3. The declaration of being of legal age

To register with Asteliar, it is necessary to declare being at least 18 years old.

Asteliar does not collect or retain the date of birth. Instead, the declaration made by the user and its date and time are recorded.

The declaration must be truthful. A false declaration constitutes a violation of the Terms of Use and may result in the deletion of the account, without prejudice to any data Asteliar is entitled to retain for security purposes, prevention or investigation of unlawful conduct, or legal obligations.

4. Why the data is processed

Data is processed, according to the respective purposes and applicable legal bases, in order to:

5. The author's identity

Asteliar is designed to foster interaction between real people.

For this reason, content published on the platform displays the first and last name provided by the user.

This feature distinguishes Asteliar from services in which interaction mainly takes place through pseudonyms or anonymous profiles.

Users must therefore provide truthful identifying data and may not use another person's identity.

6. What data is publicly visible

Published content may be visible to other users according to the methods provided by the platform.

In particular, content may include:

The combination of place, time period, text, images, and the author's identity may make a person identifiable.

Users should therefore carefully consider the information they decide to publish.

6.1 Ownership of a place and phone number

A registered user may request ownership of a place already present on the platform or just created, declaring a legitimate relationship with the business or place in question.

The request includes a phone number. This number is used by a member of Asteliar staff for a direct phone verification, aimed at confirming the ownership declared. Whoever makes the request should therefore be aware that they will receive a call from staff.

If the request is confirmed, the user becomes the owner of the place and the phone number provided is displayed publicly on the place's page, together with any further information the owner may optionally add: website, opening hours, and a brief description.

The owner may at any time edit or remove this information, including the publicly displayed phone number, through the platform's functions.

7. Memories and Bottles

Asteliar allows the publication of Memories and Bottles.

Bottles are not shown during normal browsing of the map and timeline, but are made available when the search conditions provided by the platform are met.

This feature constitutes a mode of content visibility and does not amount to a guarantee of confidentiality or exclusive access.

Users should therefore not use a Bottle to publish information they intend to keep private.

8. Editing content

Authors may edit their own content within the limits of the functions made available by the platform.

Editing does not remove the author's responsibility for the published content.

Edited content remains subject to the Terms of Use, reporting procedures, and moderation.

9. Images

Asteliar allows the upload of images associated with posts, places, and events within the limits set by the platform.

Images:

Re-encoding also removes any EXIF information, including data that could contain the geographic location of the device with which the photograph was taken.

Removing EXIF data does not, however, make the image anonymous. A photograph may contain identifiable people, places, license plates, documents, or other personal information.

Users are responsible for the lawfulness of publishing the images they upload.

10. Deletion of images

When an image is deleted, Asteliar removes the corresponding file and its associated record.

In the event of account deletion, images associated with the user's content are identified through their associations in the system and removed.

11. Comments, reports, and moderation

Asteliar may process the data necessary for managing comments, reports, and moderation activities.

Reports may be used to verify content compliance with the Terms of Use.

For platform security, technical data relating to access and access attempts may also be recorded.

12. Security-related data

The IP address and other technical data may be processed when necessary to:

This data is not used by Asteliar to build advertising profiles of users.

13. Data relating to staff activities

Actions taken by users with moderation or management roles may be recorded in internal control systems.

These logs serve to ensure traceability, security, and accountability in the platform's management activities.

14. Data retention

Data necessary for account management and the associated content are retained for the duration of the user's registration.

When a user requests account deletion, Asteliar proceeds to delete the data and associated content, according to the methods provided by the system.

An exception may apply to data Asteliar is entitled or required to retain in order to:

In particular, some data contained in technical records and activity logs may be retained even after account deletion when necessary for these purposes.

15. No continuous location tracking

Asteliar does not carry out continuous monitoring of the user's geographic location.

The location used in content is the one the user chooses to associate with the published content.

16. External technical services

The following technical services are used for the platform's operation:

Hosting and e-mail

Asteliar's website and technical infrastructure are hosted on servers located in the European Union. The e-mails necessary for the service (account verification, password recovery, notifications about account status) are also sent through the same provider. The provider is:

SupportHost OÜ
Ahtri tn 12, Tallinn 15551, Estonia
VAT No.: EE102402247

Since the provider is based and operates within the European Union, the processing of data does not involve a transfer to third countries.

Mapping services

The platform uses the OpenStreetMap project to display maps and to search for addresses and places:

The software library that enables the interactive display of the map (Leaflet) is loaded from a content delivery network (cdnjs, operated by Cloudflare).

Typefaces

The typefaces used by the website are hosted directly on Asteliar's servers. They are not loaded from external services such as Google Fonts, and therefore do not involve any transmission of data to third parties for this purpose.

The list of providers above will be updated according to the services actually used by Asteliar over time.

17. Cookies and local technologies

Asteliar uses only the technologies strictly necessary for the platform's operation.

The website may use a technical session cookie to maintain the user's authentication.

The language preference may be stored locally in the browser (via local storage technology), exclusively on the user's device, and is not transmitted to Asteliar or to third parties.

Asteliar does not, in its current configuration, use advertising profiling tools or similar systems intended to track user behaviour for commercial purposes.

For more information, please refer to the Cookie Policy.

18. Rights of the data subject

Users may exercise, in the cases provided for by applicable law, the rights relating to their personal data, including:

Requests should be addressed to the Data Controller through the contact details indicated in this notice.

19. Account deletion

Users may request the deletion of their own account through the function provided by the platform.

Deletion results in the removal of the account and the content associated with it, according to the methods provided by the system.

This is without prejudice to any data Asteliar is entitled or required to retain for the purposes indicated in this notice.

20. Updates to this notice

This notice may be updated when necessary, for example as a result of changes to the platform's operation, to the services used, or to applicable law.

The updated version will be made available on the platform, indicating its date.
